Celeb Twitter Round-Up: Khanyi Mars Ditches ‘Music Pulse’

Having a podcast is like having a family: almost everyone has one. Standing out in such a crowded industry is difficult, but there are a few in South Africa who have crafted a little niche for themselves, like Macgyver “MacG” Mukwevho and his “Podcast and Chill”.

MacG’s network has expanded greatly since it first aired in 2018, including entertainment, education, comedy and music segments to its format. The latter, “Music Pulse”, is where drama has taken place, specifically Khanyi Mars recently calling it quits.

On Tuesday, 19 May, Mars shared the abrupt news via her Instagram Stories, writing simply: “I have officially taken the decision to leave the Podcast and Chill network, I’m no longer part of Music Pulse. I’m extremely grateful to the entire network.”

Not long after, she shared a black and white photo of herself making the time-out hand gesture and disabling comments on the post. However, that didn’t stop enquiring fans from commenting on a previous post to find out more.

What happened behind the scenes that caused Miss Mars to clock out for the final time? Everyone on the Twitter/X streets had the word, or made educated guesses about the why: ranging from a toxic workplace, background drama, personality clashing, misogyny, to even “negative energy”.

There are those who believe that she had not completely left the network and was simply joining another part of the studio. Others simply wished her well on her future endeavours.

A couple of tweeps saw the writing on the wall and thought that more fellows would eventually leave, but one user was simply happy that Mars had left MacG and his oversized ego.

Ya neh, South Africans have their favourites but they love to see people come out of a bad situation. In this case, we can only assume that good things are coming for the young lady.
