Celeb Twitter Round-Up: Mia le Roux Debuts Miss Universe National Costume
Sjoe, the way that social media judges people’s outfits, you would think we were on an episode of “Project Runway” – you know, “one day you’re in, and the next day, you’re out” sort of jazz. Mia le Roux, the reigning Miss South Africa, got this treatment when she unveiled her Miss Universe national costume at a recent event.
ICYDK, Le Roux withdrew from the Miss Universe 2024 pageant last month because she had been suffering from severe vertigo.
Last weekend, the 28-year-old beauty queen attended Cape Town Fashion Week at the Kenilworth Racecourse in Cape Town, Western Cape. There, she wore this Ndebele-inspired number:
The vibrant gown was designed by Ndebele artist, Dr Esther Mahlangu, with some input from the AFI Atelier. The accompanying ostrich-feather wings were crafted by Hollywood Costumes.
Apparently, this is what Le Roux would have worn during the national costume showcase of the Miss Universe pageant.
Over on Twitter/X, there were some folks who adored the look:
@Ngubenil was one of the few who liked Le Roux’s outfit, but didn’t think it would have stood a chance against the other contestants’ looks had she competed:
As for the rest of Mzansi Twitter/X, they absolutely LOATHED it, (jokingly) believing that it was the real reason why she withdrew in the first place:
Hey, you can’t win ‘em all!
Perhaps the final look would have been more stunning if there were specific plans to glam up the shoes, accessories, hair and make-up (and wings) for the pageant proper. Otherwise, we think it’s a pretty elegant ensemble that screams South African pride.
What do YOU think of Mia le Roux’s gown, folks? Let us know!
