Celeb Twitter Round-Up: Rasta Unveils Portrait of Nathi Mthethwa

October 13, 2025

Infamous artist Lebani “Rasta” Sirenje has struck again, but this time, he seems to have improved his skills with his latest portrait.

Rasta – who’s known for producing notoriously bad artwork of celebrities and other famous figures – went viral on social media after images of his latest creation were shared online:

The portrait depicts Nathi Mthethwa, who served as South Africa’s ambassador to France. On 30 September, he was found dead after falling from the 22nd floor of a Parisian hotel. The French authorities believe that the 58-year-old politician committed suicide.

Mthethwa was laid to rest on Sunday, 12 October.

After Rasta paid tribute to the late ambassador, many tweeps shared their thoughts on the portrait. Many actually found that, unlike his previous works, this piece showed improvement:

A few peeps dug into their conspiracy bag, wondering if the accuracy of the portrait meant that Mthethwa wasn’t actually dead:

The rest of Twitter/X just thought Mthethwa looked like other celebs completely:

For what it’s worth, Rasta wasn’t too far off with his depiction of Mthethwa. If anything, it’s a touching tribute to the politician, whose untimely death has impacted many South Africans and has opened up a national discussion regarding mental health.
