Celeb Twitter Round-Up: Teko Modise’s Estranged Wife Demands R1.2 Million
All’s fair in love and war. But marriage and divorce? Those are two different battlefields, albeit with one thing in common: money. x-footballer Teko Modise may find himself embroiled in a huge legal and financial battle – involving large amounts of the aforementioned – against his estranged wife, influencer Koketso Chipane.
Modise is no stranger to marriage: the former Orlando Pirates and Mamelodi Sundowns star was married to Felicia Mokoena – with whom he shares a daughter – from 2010 to 2013. He then got hitched to Chipane in 2021, welcoming a son with her.
However, they separated sometime in 2024, deleting photos of each other from their social media accounts.
Now, if recent reports are anything to go by, the estranged couple are attempting to hash out a divorce settlement. Chipane wants Modise to pay her R1.2 million to settle various financial matters, including an overdraft.
Modise is said to have a pretty penny stashed away in his pocket, thanks to his days as a footballer, his current broadcasting career and his recent forays into the fashion industry. However, the 42-year-old’s previous marriage to Mokoena is sure to also have financial implications attached.
As you can see, it was mainly the menfolk on Twitter/X who bemoaned marriage in response to this news, labelling it as a scam, a curse, a business transaction, etc.:
They also lamented (if you can call it that) the state of marriages these days, as if these were pure and sacred back in the day (FYI, probably not!):
There’s also a bit of a debate regarding whether Modise should just pay Chipane out so that the divorce proceedings aren’t dragged out forever, or if she must just walk away empty-handed:
All in all, the general consensus is this:
Yup. That’s one way to weaponise marriage against fragile male egos, alright.
Here’s hoping Teko Modise and Koketso Chipane settle up and move on with their lives – not only for the sake of their child, but also for their wallets!
