Ladysmith Black Mambazo Pay Tribute to Dolly Parton

Legendary music group Ladysmith Black Mambazo have honoured US country star, Dolly Parton, with a heartwarming tribute.

In 1995, Parton and Ladysmith Black Mambazo collaborated on a cover of Bob Dylan’s “Knockin’ on Heaven’s Door”. A year later, they teamed up once more to cover Cat Stevens’ “Peace Train”.

On Tuesday, 25 August, Parton passed away at the age of 80 following a brief battle with cancer.

The following day, Ladysmith Black Mambazo took to Instagram to share a clip from “Music is My Life”, a documentary centered on the group’s founder Joseph Shabalala.

Alongside a performance of “Knockin’ on Heaven’s Door” with Parton, the clip includes audio snippets of the “Jolene” hitmaker lauding Shabalala and his ensemble.

In the accompanying caption, the group wrote: “Dolly Parton was more than just an iconic singer and songwriter. She was a cultural ambassador and philanthropist who touched countless lives worldwide. Her songs, filled with warmth, storytelling and honesty, reached diverse audiences and connected with people of varying backgrounds.”

They added: “As we remember Dolly, let us honour her extraordinary contributions to music and society, and continue to cherish the joy and inspiration she brought to millions of people around the world.”
