Maxwell Cancels SA Music Tour

August 04, 2026

American singer-songwriter Maxwell has cancelled his upcoming tour to South Africa.

The “After Dark” hitmaker was scheduled to perform between 8 August and 11 August at the SunBet Arena in Pretoria and the GrandWest Grand Arena in Cape Town.

However, a statement posted on organiser Vertex Events’ Instagram page on Monday, 3 August, confirmed that Maxwell won’t be performing in Mzansi next week as expected.

“Due to unforeseen circumstances beyond my control, I’m unfortunately no longer able to perform in South Africa as planned,” Maxwell explained. “This decision wasn’t made lightly. I sincerely apologise to everyone who was looking forward to the shows. I appreciate your understanding and continued support. I hope to be back with you all soon.”

Vertex explained that their efforts to find a solution with the 53-year-old crooner’s team came to naught.

“All ticket holders will receive a full refund, and Webtickets will be in touch with further details,” they wrote.

Thanking fans for their patience and understanding, the organisers also offered a glimmer of hope: “We look forward to welcoming Maxwell back to South Africa in the future.”

Here’s hoping that we will see Maxwell in SA sooner rather than later!
