Why Sydney Seethal Feels Safer in USA
Sydney Seethal has opened up about her choice to live in the United States of America rather than stay in South Africa.
The 22-year-old model and influencer – who is also the younger sister of “Water” hitmaker Tyla – currently resides in New York City, New York, though she often travels between her new home and Mzansi.
In a recent video clip that’s doing the rounds on social media, Seethal explained that she prefers living in America over South Africa, citing safety concerns.
She recounted a violent hijacking that she endured several years ago on her way from the shops, which left her injured.
“[The hijacker] was basically fighting me for my phone,” she is heard saying in the clip. “He even slammed me on the road … I was even holding … a six-pack of Coke and stuff because I just went to the shop.”
Ultimately, Seethal – who was 18-years-old at the time of the incident – managed to fight back and keep her phone, but realises now that things could have been worse, especially if the hijacker had been armed.
While some fans sympathised with the influencer, others were less than kind. Racial profiling, police brutality against persons of colour and crime were a few of the major issues in America that were pointed out, which could put her safety at risk as a mixed-race woman.
