Celeb Twitter Round-Up: Miguel Fans Rage Over Concert Prices

South Africans love it when their favourite musicians visit these shores, bringing good times and great memories.You know Mzansi will show them how spirited we can be in the stands, but they’ll also let you know when they’re upset.

Take RnB singer-songwriter Miguel, for example. The Vertex Events announced on 20 August that the Grammy-winning superstar would be performing in the country between 21 and 23 May 2027 at venues in Cape Town, North West and Pretoria. A guaranteed time of entertainment and soulful tunes, right? Well, yes, if you can afford it!

Fans of the 40-year-old “Sure Thing” hitmaker were initially excited for the news, but eventually were left gobsmacked by the price of the concert tickets, which ranged from R950 to R2950! Their shock was all over social media and tweeps had thoughts.

When money is involved, folks can’t hide their feelings. One user said it plainly.

Then they shared the shocking news with another, who was, in turn, shocked too.

Nearly R3000 for just one night, not a festival. You really can not, but there it was.

So another netizen pointedly asked how much would be a fair price and they got a direct response.

The prices had others thinking they would be more appropriate for well-known acts such as Drake, or even Ye.

Nevertheless, there are fans willing to bite the bullet – even though some claimed his popularity had dipped since the mid 2010s – and pay to see Miguel perform live. Even though some did so begrudgingly.

The price range appeared reasonable to some. While others were just happy for a live act that catered to their tastes.

Then you had those who were going, but would be crying at the sight of their bank balances afterwards.

No online conversation would be complete without at least a few jokesters – salty or not – getting their say in.

South Africans can be just as grateful as they can be pouty when it comes to who visits the country, but all in all, they still show appreciation for their live music acts. Miguel is certainly to perform to an energetic crowd next year. Overpriced tickets or not!
